A 2015 graduate of St. John Paul II Catholic Secondary School, Danielle Garven played for the Canadian national team from 2013-15, participating in the FIBA U19 World Championship in Russia.

She competed at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championships in the Czech Republic and also helped the national team win silver at the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championships in Mexico. 

Garven began her college career in 2015-16 at the University of Minnesota, playing for the Gophers, appearing in nine games.

In 2016-17 she transferred to Chipola College where she earned a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-America Honourable Mention.

During the season she averaged 13.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, scoring in double figures in 27 games, with four games of 20 points or more. She helped Chipola reach the NJCAA Elite Eight, earning an NJCAA All-Tournament team honours as the school went on to finish the season 28-5. 

In 2017-18 as a junior, she transferred to the University of Pittsburgh before more overseas to play for Cab Madeira in Portugal.

Garven is also the cousin of current NBA player who won the NBA title, Tristan Thompson who currently plays for the Boston Celtics.
