BOYS SELECT LEAGUE

PLAYERS MUST BE AT LISTED AGE BEFORE JANUARY 1

The SBA Select program provides weekly games and assists and guides the development of committed basketball players. Through weekly training sessions and games, athletes will be trained to develop physical strength, and individual and team skills.

The group training sessions are led by certified guest coaches and volunteers providing players with the opportunity to further develop their individual skills.

The weeknight “game days” are grass-roots basketball at its best.

SBA recommends that each player registered must have the below noted skillsets in order to enable them to properly participate in team dynamics during each game. Otherwise, the player might find themselves not being effectively included in team play on the court by their teammates

Our certified coaching staff strive to get the best out of each player. A component of the Select basketball program is to offer coaches the opportunity to develop and grow their own coaching aims, objectives, and skills. The goal in our programming is to be inclusive and to build on the SBA’s philosophy and aims to build character, develop friendships and have a whole lot of fun.”

Dribbling

One of the most important fundamentals for young players to learn and develop is their dribbling ability. Dribbling allows a player to maneuver on the basketball floor without obtaining a violation.

  1. Dribble with left hand
  2. Dribble with right hand
  3. Attack dribble to the rim

Shooting

Without the right technique for shooting, players have little to no control over their shot making ability. Developing the right shooting technique helps confidence and puts your team in a better position to win games.

  1. Balance – shoulder-width apart
  2. Elbow – shooting hand + elbow and the rim on the same line
  3. Eyes – keep eyes on target
  4. Follow through – ball rolls off index & middle finger with arm extended like a gooses neck
